Psychotherapy for Creating Work-Life Balance
We need to do a better job of putting ourselves higher on our own 'to do' list. — Michelle Obama
Building a Life that is both Satisfying and Productive
Work is rarely 9-5 anymore. That model has been replaced by one that often blurs work and free time. Technology makes you available 24/7 to work emails and projects, with a frequent expectation that you will respond and continue to work outside of your actual working hours and even while on PTO. Start-ups make even greater demands on your time, expecting you to work late into the evening ( or night) and weekends. Of course it is important to be excited by and to enjoy your work! Yet often it comes at the expense of your other needs and can result in fatigue, stress, and burn-out. You may find yourself drinking or using drugs in excess, overeating or using porn to cope. You may not be getting enough exercise, not eating and sleeping well, and/or not spending enough time with family and friends. Is it time to explore what constitutes a healthy work-life balance for you? ( if you are reading this, it probably is!) There is no one size fits all. The therapy process can help you get in touch with your unique needs and desires both about both work and life outside of work. We can collaboratively be curious and discover what balance is right for you. Psychotherapy can help you be less of a "human doing" and more of a "human being."
Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes… including you. - Anne Lamott
